Stick to the facts: If early indications hold true, it is going to be a long election season

It is not like anyone should have to resort to personal attacks this election season.

There is plenty to criticize both parties for as candidates prepare to do battle for nominations and actual head-to-head competition.

So, there really should be no reason any voters should have to listen to the same slime that we have been telling candidates for generations we do not want to hear anymore.

But if you look at what has taken place so far in the early rounds of the election, you will be see slurs, distractions and attacks that would seem ludicrous if they were not just sad.

A candidate who has to resort to personal attacks has nothing else to say.

And this year voters are looking to put people in office who have something to say that will address the problems this country is facing.

The other distractions are simply annoying.

So let's hope that these early rounds are just mistakes.

Let's hope by the time we get to the serious debates, we have more to talk about than petty name-calling.

Otherwise, we had better find some grownups to enter the races before it is too late.
