Thanks, teachers: Wayne County Public Schools honored one of its best, but there are others, too

You do not often hear their names, but if your child has been helped by a teacher who went above and beyond the call of duty, you know just what kind of impact these professionals can have on a young person's life.

Last night, Wayne County Public Schools honored Jennifer Tyndall as the district's Teacher of the Year. To understand what an achievement that is, you have to step inside a classroom and watch just what teachers go through these days to light the spark of learning and to keep it burning.

Ms. Tyndall was honored for her innovations and her dedication to making her lessons usable, real and applicable to life after high school.

The Spring Creek High School teacher has been a leader in bringing new ideas into her classroom and capturing the interest of the students who flock to take her business classes each year.

And that is an achievement worth celebrating.

But Ms. Tyndall would be the first one to tell you that she is not alone.

There are many, many stories just like this one in schools across Wayne County. Teaching is a difficult job -- and a calling. There are teachers, new and experienced, who are determined that their students are going to get their best every day -- and there are lives that have been changed because of that dedication.

It is important that we remember just how fortunate we are to have people like Ms. Tyndall in charge of our children's futures.
