Be part of march: Share the experiences of 4th FW airmen as they remember 9/11.

There are going to be a number of tributes over the next few weeks that relate to the upcoming 10th anniversary of the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

They will be poignant. They will bring back tough memories. Few Americans can think back on that fateful day without feeling a touch of pain and anger.

But one of the most touching tributes to those we lost that day -- and since -- for Wayne County residents might very well be the one that is going on right now near Greensboro, and later, across the country.

Members of the 4th Fighter Wing Security Forces are marching a guidon to Virginia as part of a journey to honor the men and women who died as a result of the events of Sept. 11.

From emergency personnel who risked -- and lost -- their lives trying to rescue victims on that terrible day, to those who have died as part of the military campaigns in the battle against terrorism since, these airmen are doing their part to make sure no hero is forgotten on this auspicious anniversary.

And we should be grateful to them for helping us to remember.

There is no way to accurately share the pain and sorrow of those who lost loved ones in the Sept. 11 attack -- or to ease the suffering of those who have lost loved ones in Iraq or Afghanistan since.

Our part is really to remember the way we felt that day when we heard the news and how our hearts open every time we hear of a hero lost on the battlefield.

We need to honor the sacrifice, to support the mission and to never, ever forget what it has cost us.
