Special delivery: 'Accolades' is our chance to share a little joy with our community

Every year we start this project with the same goal -- to tell you some of the stories that you might not even realize are out there in your county.

And every year we are surprised again by how many people there are in this community who do special things and who are inspirational.

You will see people from all walks of life in this year's Progress edition -- Accolades. Some of them you might know, and others might be new to you, but all of them have stories worth hearing.

This section is not an easy thing to put together. We balance it every year with trying to provide you with the latest news and information from your county. So, it is a bittersweet labor of love for all of us -- nice to see when we have finished it, but a lot of work and stress as we are accomplishing it.

We are proud to bring it to you again this year.

As you are probably aware, this section wins awards for the newspaper nearly every year, and is recognized as one of the best of its kind across the state.

But that is not why we do it.

We enjoy sharing the stories that are out there with you and meeting the people we profile in the section each year. Part of the joy of this kind of journalism is the joy of telling stories -- and this is our chance to do more of that than we usually have time to do.

We thank all those who opened their lives up to us this year -- some of those stories we are saving to feature in future editions of The News-Argus.

And to those loyal readers who support our efforts every day, this is our way of saying thanks. Enjoy.
