A real difference: Volunteers offer much to county by giving of their time, and themselves

No one has a lot of time these days.

So, those who give so much to local charitable organizations in Wayne County make a conscious decision every day that being there for the needy, the youths and others in their community is a priority in their lives.

Tuesday, this county paused to honor those whose work in Wayne County has been exceptional and has made a difference in the future of this community.

Their stories were truly inspiring.

So what can we, the rest of us, learn from the time, dedication and commitment these people and hundreds like them offer to their communities every day?

That it only takes a couple of hours a week to change a life.

There are a myriad of opportunities to help people in this community. And if you would like to also help find an abandoned dog or cat a home or to make their wait for their forever home more comfortable, there are plenty of places for that, too.

All it takes to get involved is the desire to do so -- and to know where to look.

Local organizations offer volunteer opportunities all the time -- and pretty much any project they are running is in need of volunteers.

So, make a call or just show up. There will be someone there who will be more than willing to tell you how you can get involved.

And there is no age limit to being a volunteer, either. There are opportunities for children and seniors, too.

It takes the efforts of people from all walks of life to make a difference in a community -- how grateful we should be that so many people make that task a priority right here in Wayne County.
