A true 'Eagle': Carson Thomas is once-again, an inspiration to us all

Earning the title of "Eagle Scout" is an honor in itself. Few young men are able to invest the time, commitment and dedication it takes to achieve such a lofty award.

But to do so as you battle back from a serious, life-threatening injury makes you something much more than just a member of Scouting's elite -- it makes you an inspiration.

The fact that Carson Thomas has claimed the honor of Eagle Scout is significant enough.

But he also insisted that he do it by following the rules -- and finishing before his 18th birthday -- a requirement he could have waived because of an accident that left him with a severe brain injury.

And that, boys and girls (and moms and dads), is what being an Eagle Scout is all about.

This young man has proven time and time again that he not only is strong, proud and determined to be the best person he can possibly be, but he also is continuing to serve his community even in the face of tremendous personal odds. He could have taken the easy road, but took the challenge instead.

And that class and character make him a role model for every other young person in this community who says he or she "can't" achieve something or "doesn't have time" to give to others.

All it really takes to succeed or to make a difference is determination, support and a heart that is pure and strong. Carson is living proof of that.

An Eagle Scout is supposed to be the highest role model for those who are involved in Scouting. Carson is that -- and more.
