Perdue's plight -- Town hall meetings? How many times can you hear: Things aren't going well

It is human nature not to want to talk about stuff when it is not going so well.

Take for instance, Gov. Bev Perdue and her unkept promise to hold town meetings across the state.

That probably seemed like a good idea when she was campaigning and thought the problems she would be hearing would be minor, like potholes.

She probably did not think in those heady days of "Change" that anyone would likely have reason to yell at her not only for problems at the state level, but for the missteps federally as well.

Can you blame her for thinking that perhaps it might be a better idea to stay in the governor's mansion -- at least until the gunfire dies down a bit?

The reality of governing is that it is not easy -- especially when you are a member of a former scandal-riddled administration and in the middle of a pretty tough economy.

The governor has likely been a bit busy trying to figure out how she is going to balance being a loyal Democrat and remain true to the needs of North Carolina.

And then there is that pesky jobless rate and a looming budget deficit that would choke an elephant.

No wonder having heart-to-heart talks with the people has not been tops on her list.

If the governor really wants to fix her job approval rating, she does not need to keep her promise on feel-good meetings.

She needs to tell it like it is -- and make the decisions that show the people who elected her that she understands their concerns and has the situation under control. That's what this state needs now.

We can have sweet tea later.
