Support 4-H'ers: Young people work hard and deserve community's backing

It is a lot more work than it seems -- raising a livestock project.

Wayne County's 4-H groups have done their community proud -- performing well at not only their own fair, but on the livestock circuit as well.

And yet, unless you are lucky enough to see them at the fair, you do not really realize just how much work goes into preparing a cow, a goat or a market hog.

That is, unless you can take the time to attend the county's annual Livestock Show and Sale.

Going allows you not only to see just how many county young people still get that agriculture is big business in this community, but it also allows you to see just what kind of top-notch young people are part of the county's 4-H program.

And, as if that weren't enough, you just might be able to get yourself a pretty nice piece of livestock.

The money these children earn from their livestock project sales is used to offset the costs of raising their charge -- and teaches them about profit, loss and business, skills they will be able to use later.

4-H is a fine program and one that offers a glimpse into the real world for many young people in this county.

It would be nice if this week, as 4-H'ers celebrate another successful livestock year, they were to hear lots of applause ... and see a nice return on their hard work.
