Economic woes: News of closings reminds us that there is still work to be done.

The fact that there is a recession in full force in the United States right now is not often far from most people's minds.

From those who have been laid off from jobs they have held for years, to young people who now must try to find work after graduating from college, the road is not easy.

And this week, another business in Wayne County has announced that it has closed its doors.

Even with the possibility that there will be a new industry coming just down the road a bit, the news is scary -- and worrisome -- mostly because this is not the first such announcement in the last six months.

There are serious economic issues to be dealt with here and across the country. Without a full-fledged recovery and more aggressive efforts to assist small businesses -- and large businesses -- as they try to stay afloat, there will not be better employment numbers anywhere.

This week's announcement is sad not just because there will be another empty storefront in this community, but because there are more people who will now have to wonder where they are going to find a job.

And that is not news that is good for any community.

Those who are in power at the state and federal levels need to take note as they come up with more taxes and more ways to take more money away from business investment.

There is no way to fix an economy when businesses have to close their doors and workers cannot find, and keep, jobs. That is simple economic common sense.
