15 minutes ... over: It is time for John Edwards to fade into the background -- quickly

Does anyone really want to hear anymore about John Edwards' sex life?

There probably aren't too many people who care -- other than for pure amusement sake -- especially if they live in North Carolina.

Edwards' tale of infidelity and downright crazy would be merely amusing if it was not such a blatant example of yet another politician who could not live up to his billing.

And for those who believed in him and rallied around him as he pursued his political ambitions, the story just gets harder and harder to hear -- and the accusations more and more examples of betrayal.

And now crazy seems to be extending to Mrs. Edwards -- though who could blame her?

So perhaps it is time for Edwards' 15 minutes of fame to gracefully slide into nothingness. That way, if he chooses to propose to his mistress, build her a house, declare their love child a golden gift to the world or anything else, it will not have to become headline news.

That means we will not have to listen to it anymore.

Edwards' story is not unique. There have been many politicians around the country who have gone off the deep end this year. Most have not had this web of intrigue and goofiness, however.

One would hope that Edwards understands that politics is not in his future -- but you never know.

Perhaps his public should send him a clear message that that ship has sailed, just in case.
