Miracle watch: In technologically advancing society, faith still powerful

There has been more than one consequence of the continued development of science and technology in today’s world.

As we become more and more enthralled with the latest scientific discovery and how much faster a computer can be than we ever dreamed, we lose a bit of our wonder about the aspects of our world that are unexplainable by a formula or a new supersonic chip.

And then along comes a miracle like Brandon Vinson.

A rifle accident left him with a bullet in his spine and doctors who said that he would never walk again.

And with a little love, a lot of hard work and a good measure of faith, this 17-year-old walked into his church a few weeks ago — assisted by crutches, but still, defying the odds.

There is no scientific explanation. There wasn’t some supersonic technological advance that got him on his feet.

It is just a good, old-fashioned miracle.

In the future, we will dream of advancements we would never have considered and watch them become realities. Science and technology will continue to give us new ways of looking at our world.

What we must not forget is that the faith, hope and love of a family and a church can still work miracles.

Brandon is proof of that.
