Unsung heroes: 4th Security Forces Squadron carries itself with honor

The true sign of a hero is someone whose last thought is that he or she is one.

The men and women of the 4th Security Forces Squadron epitomize that definition.

Named one of the top squadrons of its size in the Air Force, the team members would rather talk about their comrades and the honor of doing their jobs.

No fanfare. No parades. No hoopla.

Just duty.

And while they won’t take the time to toot their own horns — after all, there is work to be done — that is no reason not to acknowledge their achievement of being named some of the best of the best.

Deployments are commonplace to this group. They spend much of their time in danger and protecting their fellow servicemen and women from harm.

And when they are home, they are busy, too, with the duties that never stop on base — even when a majority of the crew is otherwise engaged.

And more important than their dedication to their jobs is their dedication to each other. When one group is away, those who are left behind make sure that loved ones of the deployed are taken care of, so their spouses do not have to worry about what is going on back home.

That’s what makes a good unit — knowing that teamwork and caring go hand in hand with technique and training.

They should be proud of what they have accomplished.
