Time to care? Often, it only takes a moment to change someone’s life

There are not many of us who have extra time lying around wasting away. In fact, life is usually a wild scramble to fit a “to-do” list in one 24-hour period.

We don’t think we have time for anything else.

Beginning today, the United Way and Volunteer Wayne/RSVP are asking county residents to slow down, take a breath and to care.

Days of Caring is designed to match residents looking to make even a small impact on the future of this community and in the lives of the people who live here with organizations that need help.

There are a variety of choices from donations to labor, from a few minutes to a couple of days. The United Way and Volunteer Wayne will help you find the project that best suits what you have to offer.

All you have to do is to make the time a priority.

Today’s fast-paced world is not made to accommodate extra duties. The harder many of us try to get a handle on our responsibilities, the longer the list seems to be.

But what we forget is that keeping a community strong, vibrant and a good place to raise a family cannot be done by a mayor or a county manager or anyone else who sits behind a desk in an office.

If we want Wayne County to be better, we have to make it better ourselves.

Many people think they do not have much to contribute. They might not have money for donations or the time to commit to hours of volunteer work.

But you can make a difference in a minute.

This week, United Way and Volunteer Wayne hope you will let them show you how.
