He will serve: Goldsboro mayor is latest to keep promise to United Way

If you dive through Starbucks on Berkeley Boulevard tomorrow morning, you just might see a familiar face behind the coffee pot.

Goldsboro Mayor Al King will be on hand from 8 to 9 a.m. as part of fulfilling his commitment to the United Way’s Bring It On campaign.

The idea behind the last-minute push is to reach the organization’s goal of raising enough money to make a difference in 28,800 lives in Wayne County next year.

The mayor, with his tip jar by his side (all proceeds will benefit the United Way), will froth, pour and create coffee delicacies for an hour.

How much work he has to do during that hour is up to us.

If you have some time before work tomorrow, stop by and see Mayor King — and drop a dollar or two into his jar. And, don’t worry, he will have plenty of assistance from Starbucks’ regular staff to make sure you get what you ordered — and that your “usual” tastes just like it always does.

There is still a ways to go to reach the $1.44 million United Way goal — and there are still a couple of victims waiting for word of their fate if we get there.

And whether we do really depends on all of us.
