Share the spirit: There are many seniors who will be forgotten this Christmas

The names on this year’s wish trees at the Berkeley Mall do not just include children. More than 200 seniors citizens are listed there, too.

And that might not be a group you would think of when you are deciding where to put your charity dollars this holiday season.

There are hundreds of seniors in Wayne County who have no one to remember them — let alone to buy them even a small, token gift.

So, they will sit, forgotten over the holidays.

That is, unless someone comes along who has an extra gift to give or a little time for a visit.

As you make your holiday gift lists, think about including a senior citizen from one of the wish trees or make a visit to your local nursing home.

Sharing a little holiday spirit with young and old just might help all of us remember the reason for this season as we prepare to battle our way through the malls.

It will certainly make someone else’s holiday brighter.

And, after all, isn’t that the point?
