There’s still time: Even if you just got home, you can still make your vote count

Who hasn’t been there. You intended to vote all day. In fact, you were excited about getting out and punching your card to determine your county and state’s futures.

And then your day explodes.

Last-minute meetings, a catastrophe at work or simply an afternoon that turns from noon to 5 p.m. in 15 minutes.

And then there are those children and that pesky spouse. You never know what they will come up with for you to do when you arrive home from an already long day.

So, you might think you have missed your chance to participate in the democratic process.

You might even feel a little guilty — that’s why you decided to do something intellectual like reading the paper.

But do not despair. There is still time. Hop in the car and head to your polling place. If you are not sure where to go, look up your registration on the internet. It only takes a few minutes.

And even if it is 7 p.m., go ahead and head out. No one will look at you with disdain for rushing in at the last minute, and the poll workers will be happy to help you get your ballot cast in time for the deadline.

One of the voters who was out early this morning mentioned that it would be a shame if someone who would best serve the county did not get elected because someone did not take the time to vote.

And she is right.

Don’t let that someone be you.
