Opinions abound: There are plenty of people speaking out on projects

When we asked a couple of weeks ago for residents to share their opinions on the proposed plan for a new Paramount Theater, more than a few people sent in letters of support as well as a few questions.

Along with those letters came messages from others who are concerned about other projects that are currently being discussed in the city and county — the animal shelter, community building and school facilities plan, just to name a few.

Some of the letters were simply messages of support for one of the above-mentioned projects, while others raised questions about priorities and funding.

All of them contained bits of information that could be useful as Wayne County and Goldsboro officials determine how to proceed.

The latest batch of letters, which are numerous, will start appearing this week, so keep your eyes open for this latest round of opinions.

And if you still haven’t submitted yours, or if there is an idea for the city or county’s future that you would like to contribute, now is the time.

There are reasons to discuss just about every project currently before the county and city leadership, especially because all of them might involve some taxpayer dollars.

Questions and ideas will be especially important as county and school officials bring the facilities issue around the county to the neighborhoods that will be affected.

As officials come to your community to talk about the future plans for your children’s schools, then is the time to let them know what you want to see — and what you might be willing to support in the form of a bond issue to pay for those improvements in the future.

That will give county and school leaders some direction as they try to come up with a plan that meets the needs of the county’s schools at a reasonable cost.

Starting a dialogue about all these projects and then combining the information gleaned from those discussions to formulate a plan of action will make the possibilities for growth and improvement in Wayne County much brighter. Knowing where we are going will help us all determine how to get there.

So, if you have something to say, bring it on. There are plenty of people willing to listen to your ideas and suggestions This is your county, and you should have some say in determining its future.

We are looking forward to hearing more of what you have to say.
