Dunce vote? Did Ohio Republicans seek to keep them from the polls?

John Kerry says he would have gotten the idiot vote in Ohio if it hadn’t been for the dirty tricks pulled by those mean old Republicans last year.

There is no real reason to believe that Ohio has any more dimwits registered to vote than does any other state. Therefore, it is unlikely that, even if they had all voted for Sen. Kerry, they could have put him ahead of President Bush in the election.

But if what Kerry says is true, the Republicans were taking no chances.

Kerry, the Democratic candidate for president, says the GOP passed out leaflets that misled potential voters about the election schedule. The leaflets said that Republicans were supposed to vote on Tuesday, and Democrats on Wednesday.

Could that be true? Do the Republicans in Ohio really believe that people there can be convinced that the people in the two parties vote on different days?

Not likely. Nor is it likely that a party would waste its time and money, in the days coming up on the election, on an effort that wouldn’t gain its candidate a single vote.

Come to think of it, though, it might not have been a bad idea if they did. Anybody dumb enough to believe that Republicans vote on Tuesday and Democrats vote on Wednesday shouldn’t be voting anyhow.
