BILLY BRICE CARROLL

Billy Brice Carroll passed away June 2, 2018, at the age of 88.
Mr. Carroll was born in Davidson County, N.C., May 3, 1930.
He was a resident of Wayne County for more than 60 years.
He was a member of Providence United Methodist Church and the United Sunday school class.
Mr. Carroll served our nation as asergeant in the United States Army, 1st Infantry Division.
He completed a 38-year career with AT&T, starting as a lineman and finishing in construction management for fiber networks.
Mr. Carroll was a civic leader in Wayne County, elected to many terms on the Southern Wayne Sanitary District board, a member of Wayne Masonic Lodge 112, a member of Wayne Shrine Club — Sudan Mini-Rigs Unit, an assistant scoutmaster for BSA Troop 10 at Providence Church, a member of the Telephone Pioneers volunteer network, a president of the Southern Wayne High School Saints athletics booster club and, for decades, helped lead a team of volunteers for charity barbecue fundraisers at Providence Church.
Outdoor interests also played an important role in Mr. Carroll's life, including gardening, farming and hunting with his children, grandchildren and friends.
Mr. Carroll was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Peggy Bolick Carroll; parents, John and Vera Carroll; sister, Elsie Carroll Frank; and grandson, John Keenan Carroll.
He is survived by his brother, Joe Carroll of Pleasant Garden, N.C.; sister, Judy Carroll Loflin of Denton, N.C.; children, Dale Carroll and wife, Cindy, of Asheville, Todd Carroll and wife, Lori, of Clayton, Delette Carroll Jarnagin and husband, Willie, of Goldsboro and Susan Carroll Basden and husband, Greg, of Denver, N.C.; grandchildren, Billy Carroll II, Landon Carroll, Lewis Carroll, Courtney Lane, B. Davis Carroll, Jes Jarnagin, Major J. Brooks Jarnagin, Lindsay Reeves and Sydney Basden; and great-grandchildren, Hailey Carroll, Peyton Carroll, Avery Carroll, Kaylyn Lane, Cole Lane, Jax Lane and Isabelle Reeves.
A service to celebrate the life of Billy Carroll will be held at Providence United Methodist Church Wednesday, June 6, at 3 p.m., with the Rev. Dr. Jerry A. Jackson and the Rev. Jim Huskins officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will greet friends in Providence United Methodist Church fellowship hall after the services.
