Dorothy L. “Dottie” Singleton Mills, 78, New Bern died Thursday, May 24, 2018, at CarolinaEast Medical Center.
She was born in Kinston Oct. 11, 1939, daughter of the late Walter Dawson and Rena Lanier Singleton.
She was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Free Will Baptist Church, where she did a lot of volunteer work with children, and was a member of Circle 7.
Her yard was her showplace as flowers were her passion.
One of her favorite pastimes was fishing and crabbing at Beard’s Creek in Arapahoe.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Fred Mills Jr.; one son, Greg Mills of Greenville; two daughters, Lynn Dixon of New Bern and Patsy Heatley of Charlotte; two brothers, Durwood Singleton and wife, Cathy, and Linwood Singleton and wife, Lynda; one sister, Sarah S. Strickland and husband, Lee; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Leslie George Singleton and Walter “Buddy” Singleton.
The family will receive friends at Pollock-Best Funeral Home Sunday, May 27, from 1 to 2 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m., officiated by her son, the Rev. Greg Mills, and her nephew, the Rev. Steve Singleton. Burial will follow at Greenleaf Memorial Park.
