Betty Gene Potter Smith, 93, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2018, at Somerset Court in Goldsboro.
Mrs. Smith was born in Pitt County Nov. 25, 1924, to the late Raymond and Hattie Turner Potter.
She was married for 64 years to the late Elwood Lee "Dick" Smith, who preceded her in death May 23, 2006.
Mrs. Smith had retired from Century Uniform Co.
She had been a faithful member of Woods Grove Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church for 59 years.
A service to celebrate Betty Gene's life will be held Thursday, Feb. 1, 2018, at 6 p.m. at Woods Grove Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church, with the Rev. Barry Teague officiating.
The family will receive friends Thursday following the service at the church and at other times, in her home.
Private interment for the family will be Friday, Feb. 2, 2018, in Wayne Memorial Park.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her daughter, Karen Taylor of Goldsboro; her sons, Bobby D. Smith and wife, Beverly, Glenn R. Smith and wife, Donna, and Kenneth E. Smith and wife, Phyllis, all of Goldsboro; her sister, Marie Peele of Goldsboro; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and four stepgrandchildren.
Although flowers are welcome, memorials may be made to Woods Grove Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church, 4009 Central Heights Road, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.
