DEBORAH MERRITT JOHNSON

Deborah Merritt Johnson, 69, Goldsboro, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2017, at her home surrounded by her family.
Deborah was born in Durham County Aug. 4, 1948, to the late Earl White "Bud" Merritt and Mary Helon Pickett Merritt.
She was a member of Spring Hill Original Free Will Baptist Church in Goldsboro.
Deborah was devoted to her church, and was involved in many activities, where she utilized her gifts and abilities to share the love of God.
She retired from child support services with the Wayne County Department of Social Services.
Deborah enjoyed volunteering with Wayne County Relay for Life, as she fought her battle with cancer.
Above all, Deborah loved spending time with her family and friends, especially her sons and precious grandchildren. She will be missed.
A graveside service to celebrate Deborah's life will be held Friday, Dec. 29, 2017, at 3 p.m. in Elmwood Cemetery in Fremont, with the Rev. Lewis Forsythe officiating.
The family will greet friends Friday following the service at the cemetery and other times at their home.
Deborah is survived by her husband of 35 years, Dennis P. Johnson; sons, Christopher Hux and wife, Esmeralda, Jason Hux and wife, Tammy, and Patrick Hux and wife, Ashley; grandchildren, Jordan Hux, Sydney Hux, Meagan Hux, Christopher Hill, Zoe Hux, Anna Hux, Joseph Hux, Kailynn Hux, Lukas Hux, Guillermo Moore and Isaiah Moore; and her k-9 friends, Lennie and Squiggy.
She is also survived by her sisters, Donna Merritt, Diedra Kleinert and Diane Hill and husband, Mark, and brother, David Merritt and wife, Theresa.
