Charles "Chuck" William Hansen, 91, Goldsboro, died peacefully at his residence Nov. 22, 2017.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, Dec. 16, 2017, at 2 p.m. at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, 1000 N. Jefferson Ave. Committal will follow at the church columbarium. The Rev. Alex Gonzalez will officiate.
He is survived by daughters, Katherine Adolph (Peter) of New Bern and Mary Jane Brady of Denver, Colo.; sons, Matthew E. Hansen (Mary O'Conner) of Milford, Conn., James C. Hansen (Jean Nyquist) of Denver, Colo., and Thomas W. Hansen (Nora) of St. Paul, Minn.; sister, Clare Zach of Madison, Wis; and four grandchildren, A.J. Adolph, Mary Brady, Joseph Brady and Michael Hansen.
He was a native of Sparta, Wis., and was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Nell Lutz Hansen (April 30, 2017); his parents, Lambert Anthony Hansen and Agnes Pelzer Hansen; his sisters, Rita Plummer, Miriam Runde and Theresa Rose Hansen; and his granddaughter, Sarah Brady.
He served in the United States Army during World War II in the 3257th Signal Service Co. as a radio operator, intercepting enemy radio code transmissions.
After the war, he earned his electrical engineering degree from the University of Wisconsin.
He worked for Allis-Chalmers Corp. for many years prior to moving to Goldsboro.
In Goldsboro, he served as vice president of Hevi-Duty Electric for more than 20 years.
Chuck was a charter member of Sunrise Kiwanis Club, where he served as past president, and received the club's Kiwanian of the Year award.
A favorite cause of his was the club's Pinewood Car Race for Kids event for developmentally disabled children.
A lifelong scouter, Chuck received numerous Scouting awards, including Eagle Scout as a youth and the Silver Beaver Award as an adult.
Chuck's family would like to express its appreciation for the Christian caregivers of Goldsboro, who lovingly cared for Chuck and Mary Nell and allowed them to complete their full lives true to their wishes.
Arrangements are with Evergreen Memorial Service of Goldsboro.
