HAZEL MAE PREAST

Hazel Mae Gray Preast, 91, Goldsboro, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2017, at Helping Hands Family Care Home while surrounded by her family.
Hazel was born in Fayette County, W. Va., Jan. 5, 1926, to the late Willard Hansford Gray and Minnie Pearl Keenan Gray. She was married for 58 years to the late William Edward Preast.
Hazel's warmth, generosity and kind spirit were well known and cherished by those she encountered throughout her life. She was a beautiful person whose loving spirit and ever present smile radiated the joy she experienced in living every day of her life.
Hazel was deeply devoted to her family, and was happiest when she was spending time with family and friends. She was a constant inspiration, and those who knew her will always remember her joy in living, her laughter, her positive attitude, her caring and loving ways and her ability to make everyone feel at home.
The family will receive friends Friday, Aug. 4, 2017, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, followed by a graveside service at 11 a.m. in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, with her nephew, the Rev. Ed Groves, officiating.
Hazel is survived by her sons, Marvin Edward Preast of Kissimmee, Fla., and Damon Lee Preast of Newport, N.C., and daughters, Carol Sue Augustus of Goldsboro and Bonnie Jean Koylu of New Bern, N.C.
She is also survived by her grandchildren, Michael Augustus Jr., Jennifer Bracken, James Augustus, Amanda Miller, Daniel Preast, Alicia Koylu, Ebru Koylu, Michelle Preast and Laura Preast, and 10 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, Hazel was preceded in death by her son, Rex F. Preast; grandson, Adam Preast; sister, Thelma Pearl Groves; and brother, Robert Gray.
Special thanks to the wonderful caregivers at Helping Hands, who cared for her and her family in so many kind and thoughtful ways in these recent days and during this time of loss.
