Jimmy R. "Tink" Johnson, 78, resident of Calypso, passed away late afternoon Thursday, July 27, at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 3, at 7 p.m. at Unity Baptist Church, 489 N.C. 55 East, Mount Olive, with pastor Ronnie Wise and the Rev. Steven Wicks officiating, followed by visitation.
Burial will be in the Calypso Cemetery at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 4.
Flowers are welcome, or memorial gifts may be made to Unity Baptist Church, P.O. Box 728, Mount Olive, N.C., 28365.
Mr. Johnson was employed by Calypso Plywood Co., and later at Benson Veneer Co.
He was a member of Unity Baptist Church in Mount Olive.
He is remembered as being a wonderful husband, father and grandfather, and was an excellent provider for his family.
Enjoyment to him was spending time with his family and friends, and being the outdoorsman that he was, he was always ready to either go camping, fishing or hunting, or all three.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Zelda Wiggins Johnson; daughter and son-in-law, Sue Johnson Miller and Karl Miller of Mount Olive; grandchildren, Shannon Leigh Jones with Ricky Pearson of Mount Olive and Daniel F. Hyde with Amber Norris of Mount Olive; great-grandchildren, Morgan A. Underwood, James A. Pearson and Alyson N. Pearson; two sisters, Joyce Harvell of Hampton, Va., and Elizabeth Whitko with husband, Walter, of Ocoee, Fla.; a brother-in-law, David Jensen of Random Lake, Wis.; and several nieces and nephews, including special nieces, Kathy Jensen Gorr of St. Nazianz, Wis., and Sandy Jensen of Campbells Port, Wis.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Lacy R. Johnson and Jencie Harris Johnson, and a brother, Albert L. "Buck" Johnson.
