MRS. GLORIA BLACKMORE KELLY

Oct. 1, 1934-May 31, 2017

Mrs. Gloria Jeanette Blackmore Kelly, 82, was born Oct. 1, 1934, in Duplin County, N.C., and was the youngest of seven children born to the late George Blackmore and Lillian Huffman Blackmore.

She entered into her eternal rest Wednesday, May 31, 2017, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Gloria attended Duplin County schools, and graduated from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University.

While employed as an educator in Duplin County at Charity High School, she met the love of her life, Milas D. Kelly, and they married and lived in New York for a few years, but moved to Goldsboro, where they remained devoted to each other for more than 50 years until his death in 2006.

She taught home economics at Norwayne and Charles B. Aycock high schools prior to her retirement.

Gloria joined First African Baptist Church as a young adult, where she remained a member for more than 50 years.

She was a charter member of Goldsboro Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Inc. in 1965.

Gloria was preceded in death by her husband, Milas Dorsey Kelly Sr.; two brothers; two sisters; and one grandchild, Eric.

Loving memories of Gloria will forever by cherished by her children, Milas Dorsey Jr. (Cynthia) of Goldsboro, Timothey Blackmore (Toni) of Upper Marlboro, Md., Jeffrey Todd (Desrine) of Upper Marlboro, Md., and Taft Darryl (Cynthia), of Silver Spring, Md.; eight grandchildren, Chris, Joy, Noelle, Harris, Dominique, Joshua, Jasmine and Taylor; two great-grandchildren, Kendall and Nicholas; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Gloria was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and will be greatly missed.

A celebration of life for Mrs. Kelly was held Sunday, June 4, 2017, at 2 p.m. at First African Baptist Church, 803 Harris St., Goldsboro, N.C., with the Rev. Louis Leigh, pastor, officiating and eulogist. Interment followed in Blackmore Cemetery of Warsaw, N.C.

Public viewing was held Saturday, June 3, 2017, from 2 to 7 p.m. at Hamilton Funeral Chapel, 423 S. James St., Goldsboro, N.C.

All persons riding in the procession Sunday met at 12:45 p.m. at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Milas Kelly Jr. in preparation for lining up.
