David C. Summerlin Sr., 87, Durham, died Thursday in Croasdaile Village Pavilion.
Funeral service will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Rose of Sharon Baptist Church, 4109 Guess Road, Durham, N.C., 27712. Committal service and Masonic rites will be Monday at 11 at Princeton Cemetery, U.S. 70 Business, Princeton, N.C. The Rev. Jeff McCarthy will officiate.
There will be a time of sharing with family following the funeral service at the church.
Surviving are his sons, Gene N. Summerlin and William R. Summerlin (Lynda) both of Durham; daughters-in-law, Anne Hutchinson Summerlin of Holden Beach and Lisa Summerlin of Cove City; sister, Joyce "Tootsie" Vinson of Goldsboro; a brother, George Summerlin of Goldsboro; sister-in-law, Beverly Cousins Summerlin of Goldsboro; grandchildren, David Carroll Summerlin III, Lloyd Alexander Summerlin, Christopher Thomas Summerlin, Joshua Paul Calnees, Jason Michael Calnees, Robert Allen Summerlin and Sarah Lynn Summerlin; and a special friend, Marilou Morgan of Durham.
He was preceded in death by wife, Mary Culbreth Summerlin; his parents, Sallie Neal Summerlin and David Conard Summerlin; his sons, David Carroll Summerlin Jr. and Thomas Ray Summerlin; and his siblings, Ellen Summerlin Smith, Juanita Summerlin Butts, Franklin Neal Summerlin and Gene A. Summerlin.
Mr. Summerlin was an active member of Rose of Sharon Baptist Church and the CITA Sunday school class.
He was past master of Harmony Lodge No. 340 of Pikeville.
He was retired as manager of Sears in Durham.
