Charles Edward Sutton, 74, Calypso, died Saturday, May 27, 2017, at Wayne UNC Health Care in Goldsboro.
He is survived by his mother, Julia Mae Grantham Sutton of Calypso; his children; Betty S. Cowlishaw of Utah, Perry Sutton and wife, Tammy, of Faison, and Charles Sutton Jr., of Dudley; a brother, Lemuel Sutton of Calypso; and his three sisters, Kathy S. and husband, Bill, Thomas of Morehead City, Marsha S. Odom of Mount Olive, and Kimberly S. and husband, Joseph, Wrenn of Fuquay Varina; seven grandchildren, Meredith Sutton, Anna McCullen, Chelsey Cox, Kasey, Marshall, and Misty Cowlishaw, and J.T. Johnson; and three great-grandchildren.
Charles was preceded in death by his father, Edward Bizzell Sutton; and his wife whom he loved dearly, Mildred Jernigan Sutton.
Charles was an avid outdoorsman, who traveled about all of Calypso from the comfort of his wheelchair. From gardening to fishing, tinkering on all sorts of machinery, and always a fixture at the Calypso ball field to enjoy those games and a good ole hotdog, Charles was just a simple, good ole country boy who loved his family, and especially his Mama.
A graveside service will be held to remember Charles on Tuesday, May 30, at 2 p.m. in the Calypso cemetery, where he could usually be seen passing by. The Rev. Ken White and the Rev. Nick Neilson will officiate the service, with a time for visiting with the family following the service. The family will also receive friends at the home of his son, Perry Sutton, 460 Marsh Kornergay Road, Faison, N.C.
Flowers welcome.
