E.T. SMITH

Edward Thomas "E.T." Smith, 88, Goldsboro, passed away Wednesday, April 26, 2017, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
E.T. was born in Wilson County Jan. 13, 1929, to the late Ben and Julie Strickland Smith, and was a graduate of Rock Ridge High School.
He lived a life of dedication to his family and friends and to his community.
He served for 25 years with Civil Service at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base.
E.T. will also be remembered for helping with the family business, Long's Plant Farm, and as an appliance repairman in Goldsboro.
He had a wonderful sense of humor, and never took himself too seriously.
E.T. had a great love for sports, and will be remembered as an avid Cardinals fan.
He was a good friend and a great father, and had a generous heart.
He provided a wonderful home for his family, and gave all he could to his family and strangers alike.
E.T. was a very strong believer in Jesus Christ, and felt that nothing was impossible when you place your trust in God. He enjoyed worshiping as a member of The First Pentecostal Holiness Church.
The family will receive friends Saturday, April 29, 2017, from 6 to 7 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, followed by a service to celebrate E.T.'s life at 7 p.m. in the chapel, with the Rev. Bill Rose officiating.
Interment will be Monday, May 1, 2017, at noon in Wayne Memorial Park.
E.T. is survived by his wife 29 years, Elizabeth Long Smith; daughters, Lisa Daw Hewes (Timothy), Cinnamon Davis and Brandie Lynn Davis all of Goldsboro; sons, Cameron Brooks Davis and Fitz Alan LaPean both of Goldsboro; sister, Belle Smith Waddell of Lucama; and brothers, Simpson "Bone" Smith (Jewel) and George Smith all of Wilson.
He is also survived by his grandchildren, Amanda Shivar (Stephen), Lacey Carroll (Alex), Darla Acres, Thomas Bishop McCarthy, Ella Tate Jordan and Evelyn Rose Scarboro; great-grandchildren, Taylor Renee Turbeville, Caden Fox Shivar and Alexander James "A.J." Carroll; sister-in-law, Edna Faye LaPean and her children, Jeff LaPean and Lori Kearney (Eddie), and their two children; brother-in-law, Edward Long: sister-in-law, Polly Culbreth and her children, Pam Culbreth and Anthony Culbreth; and several other nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, E.T. was preceded in death by his wife of 30 years, JoAnn Howell Smith; granddaughter, baby Emily Ann; sisters, Thelma Smith Teachey and Tempie Smith Davis; brothers, Wilbert Smith, Maylon Smith, LeRoy Smith, Teddy Smith, Turner Smith, Thedie Smith and Jack Smith; and brother-in-law, Art Culbreth.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given to Cures for the Colors, SMOC, 203 Cox Blvd., Goldsboro, or Make a Difference Food Pantry, 3514 U.S. 13 South, Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.
