MIRIAM R. SLOAN

Oct. 17, 1932-April 8, 2017

Miriam Roscoe Sloan, 84, died peacefully on April 8, 2017, at St. Andrews Assisted Living Center in Concord, N.C., after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.

Miriam was born on Oct. 17, 1932, in the small town of Patrick, S.C., to Lucas and Ethel Roscoe. While she lived the majority of her life in N.C., she always identified herself with her S.C. heritage. She married Kenneth Eugene Sloan in September of 1950.

She was a member of Pine Forest United Methodist Church in Goldsboro, N.C. She enjoyed her Sunday School family and attended Bible studies with other groups. She was an avid gardener who was known for sharing from her garden, whether it be vegetables or flowers.

Miriam was a generous mother, grandmother and loyal military wife. The military life required moving to different places, therefore, she was a single parent while her husband was deployed. She made many sacrifices for her family, as her sons realized later in life.

She had much affection for her six grandchildren. She displayed many pictures of them prominently in her home and loved being a part of their lives and sharing their success.

In addition to her parents, Miriam was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth, in 1998.

She is survived by her sons, Dennis Patrick Sloan and wife, Carolyn, of Huntersville, N.C., Richard Anthony Sloan and wife, Pamela, of Goldsboro, N.C. and Kristopher Todd Sloan and wife, Rebecca, of Raleigh, N.C.; and grandchildren, Kyle Patrick Sloan of Hoboken, N.J., Benjamin Ryan Sloan of San Jose, Calif., Lauren Kristine Sloan of Boulder, Colo., Stephen McCrae Sloan of Huntersville, N.C., Kevin Ashley Sloan and wife, Tiphanie, of Eureka, N.C., and Allison Sloan Eubanks and husband, Alex, of Oswego, Ill. She was loved by all of them.

The family of Miriam Sloan wishes to express their gratitude, love, and affection to the members of the St. Andrews Assisted Living Center in Concord, N.C., for their personal and professional care for our mother and grandmother during her time spent under their care and the many others that had cared for her.

The family will greet friends on Tuesday, April 11, 2017, from 10 to 11 a.m. in the fellowship hall at Pine Forest United Methodist Church, followed by a service to celebrate Mariam's life at 11 a.m. in the sanctuary, with the Rev. Madison Hankal officiating. Interment will conclude the service at Wayne Memorial Park.

Memorials may be given to Alzheimer's Foundation www.alzfdn.org or Pine Forest United Methodist Church, 867 Hwy. 581 South, Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.
