TAMRA J. LONG

Tamra Jean Long, 69, Mount Olive, N.C., formerly of Broadway, passed away April 6, 2017, surrounded by her family at UNC Wayne Memorial Hospital in Goldsboro.
She was born Dec. 13, 1947, in Broadway, and was the daughter of Ann L. Johnson Grandle of Broadway and the late Carrel W. "Jodie" Grandle Sr.
She graduated from Broadway High School in 1966.
She was a past worthy matron of the Order of the Eastern Star of the Shenandoah Valley Chapter 76, where she was member for more than 50 years.
She was a member of Sunset Drive United Methodist Church, where she served on many committees.
She served on the planning commission and as an officer for the park board for the town of Broadway.
She worked for numerous years in banking at Valley National Bank of Harrisonburg, First American, which later became FM Bank, CommonWealth One Federal Credit Union in Harrisonburg and One Main Financial in Goldsboro, N.C.
She later attended Unity Fellowship Church of Rosewood, N.C.
May 1, 1970, she married Philip A. Long Sr., who survives.
Also surviving, in addition to her mother and husband, are a daughter, Rebecca J. Halterman of Broadway; a son, Philip A. "Pal" Long II of Greenville, N.C.; three grandchildren, Gavin Halterman, Braxton Long and Trinity Long; her nephew, who was like a grandson, Jodie W. Turner of Broadway; two brothers, C.W. Grandle II and wife, Peggy, of Broadway and Jerry Grandle and wife, Cindy, of Broadway; a sister, Kathy Grandle Turner of Broadway; longtime friend, Chris Neissner of Mount Olive, N.C.; her two loving beagles, Waylon and Jack; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Her wishes were to be cremated.
The family requests flowers be omitted, and in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Kidney Fund, 11921 Rockville Pike, Suite 300, Rockville, Md., 20852.
