GEORGE PAUL KING

Died April 4, 2017

Former United States Marine Corps sergeant, American hero of two combat tours in Vietnam, brother, father, grandfather and beloved uncle departed on his final deployment April 4, 2017.

He was surrounded by his family, son, Adam of Litchfield Park, Ariz., former wife and Adam's mother, Hazel, brother Warren and wife, Charlotte, of Goldsboro, brother, James and wife, Susan, of Escondido, Calif., and niece, Hollie of Goldsboro.

In addition, he leaves behind Adam's wife, Flor at home in Arizona with grandchildren, Ashley, Andrew and Alyssa; son, Henry; nephews, Ryan and Jesse; as well as grandnieces, Victoria, Haley and Mary.

He was preceded in death by his father, George; mother, Madge; and tragically, his grandson, A.J.

After his tour with the Marine Corps, George returned to Goldsboro to raise a family.

He lived a life of service to three flags, United States of America, United States Marine Corps and state of North Carolina.

Always interested in powerful machinery, he was a master mechanic, working on jet engines in the Marine Corps and heavy construction equipment for the North Carolina Department of Transportation, where his father also worked. His skills and hard work resulted in promotion, and he retired as the maintenance shop supervisor after a long career.

Along the way, he earned a degree in human resources administration from St. Leo's.

He was fiercely loyal to his family and his country.

In his later years, along with his brother, Warren, he cared for his mother in her declining years until she passed away in 2015.

George was a man of few words and simple tastes. His Harley Davidson motorcycle was his one extravagance.

He met many friends through the memorial rides he took with fellow veterans.

He loved hanging out with his grandchildren and his nephews and nieces.

He fought his last battle with an indomitable foe bravely and without complaint. He was always a Marine, Semper Fi.

A service to celebrate George's life will be held Thursday, April 13, 2017, at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home.

The family will greet friends following the service at Seymour Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Hope for the Warriors (www.hopeforthewarriors.org) would be appreciated.

Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.seymourfuneralhome.com.
