MRS. SINGER B. JACKSON JONES (MS. SOUL BOWL LADY)

MRS. SINGER B. JACKSON JONES (MS. SOUL BOWL LADY)

Oct. 10, 1928-Feb 10, 2017

From Earth to heaven.

Our beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend changed her address from Earth to heaven Feb. 10, 2017. Her work here on earth was complete, and God called her home to receive her reward.

She was devoted to her family, and would offer a warm hug and smile to everyone. She cared deeply for others, and gave unselfishly of herself to those in need with a heart full of love.

Her greatest wish for her children was to live a life that would enable them to join her in heaven.

She leaves behind to mourn her transition a loving and devoted husband of more than 70 years, Mr. Freddie Lee Jones; one sister, Kathleen Greenfield; six children, Jimmie Lee Jones (Yoko), Carolyn Jones Palmer (Jason), Shirley Jones Richardson (Harold), Delores Lawrence, Janet Jones and Patricia Jones Hall (Jerry); nine grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Singer B. Jones, affectionately called Soul Bowl Lady, and her husband, Freddie Jones, became entrepreneurs and the proud owners of the Soul Bowl Café. The Soul Bowl Café was one of the longest operating food establishments owned and operated by African Americans in the area.

Ms Jones, Soul Bowl Lady, was the primary manager of the business for more than 35 years. As manager, she specialized in soul food, and her signature item was the infamous Soul Bowl Burger with its secret sauce.

During this time, not only did their children help work to make the business a success, they provided employment for others who were looking for a start in life.

The many lives touched by her presence in this building on the corner of Elm and Leslie streets in Goldsboro, are too numerous to name. However, she thanked God each day that, through his blessings, she was able to be a blessing to many others. Her only hope was that the blessings are continuously being passed along.

We will celebrate her life and legacy in the following manner at Best Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Goldsboro, N.C.

The family will receive friends and visitors Thursday, Feb. 16, 2017, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.; the family will be present from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Viewing will be Friday, Feb. 17, 2017, at 10 a.m., with the funeral service following at 11 a.m. The family will assemble at the residence Friday in preparation for the funeral procession.

We have entrusted the professional services of our loved one to Haskins Funeral Home of Goldsboro, N.C., www.haskinsfh.com.
