Ernestine Mallard Smith, 87, quietly passed away in Acworth, Ga., at Overlook at Cedarcrest retirement home from end-stage cardiovascular disease.
Besides being devoted to her family, Ernestine loved sewing and gardening, and lived independently in her home in Mount Olive, N.C., until March 2016.
A beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Ernestine was born in Kinston, N.C., to the late Henrietta Morton Mallard and George Osborn Mallard.
Those left to cherish her memories are her oldest son, Ernest Welch Smith (and wife, Donna) of Kennesaw, Ga.; her youngest son, Linwood Worth Smith of Goldsboro, N.C.; younger brother, George Osborn Mallard Jr. of Dallas, Ga., four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at Tyndall’s Funeral Home in Mount Olive Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2017, at 2 p.m., with visitation following. Burial will be in Friendship Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery in Jones County near Trenton Thursday, Feb. 16, following an 11 a.m. graveside service.
