Donald Gray Murray, 82, Bessemer City, passed away on Jan. 19, 2017, at Alexandria Place, Gastonia.
He was born Jan. 26, 1934, in Rutherford County, son of the late John Adolphus Murray and Mollie Florence Freeman Murray.
He was a member of Garrison Memorial ARP Church of Bessemer City.
Mr. Murray was a veteran of the United States Army.
He was an avid, hunter, gardener and farmer, who was the founding member of the Dairy Goat Association.
He loved his family deeply, and was devoted to all of them.
He retired from Winn-Dixie after 30-plus years as the meat manager.
A funeral service will be held noon Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017, at Greene Funeral Service, West Chapel, 216 Archie Whitesides Road, Gastonia, officiated by pastor Lee Russell.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Interment will be at Westview Gardens of Bessemer City with military honors provided by the United States Army.
Pallbearers for Mr. Murray’s service will be Doug Dickerson, Marshal Dickerson, Phill Murray, David Ross, Andy Sosebee and Scott Southard.
Mr. Murray is survived by his loving wife of 16 years, Rebecca S. Murray; son, Eddie Murray and wife, Linda; daughter, Judy Murray Sosebee and husband, Tony; stepchildren, Scott and Richard Southard and Christa Smarr; and grandchildren, Andrew Sosebee, Elizabeth Murray.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Jean Hunter Murray; sister, Ruby G. Murray; and brothers, William L. Murray and Lenard A. Murray.

Arrangements are with West Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium of Gastonia.
