MARTHA ELIZABETH POINDEXTER FLEMING

Martha Elizabeth Poindexter Fleming, 85, Yadkinville, passed away Saturday, Oct. 22, 2016, at Wayne Memorial Hospital surrounded by her loving family, Nancy, Andy, Rachel and Courtney Evans, and two special friends.
Martha moved to Fremont to live with Nancy's family. She enjoyed the company of extended family and friends.
She was born July 25, 1931, in Forsyth County to the late John Stevenson Poindexter and Bertie Caroline Huffman Poindexter.
Martha was educated at East Bend High School, except for two years at Old Town during World War II. She attended Appalachian State College.
In 1951, she married Frank Fleming; he died Dec. 29, 2000, a few months before their 50th anniversary.
They were blessed with three children, Nancy Fleming (Andy) Evans, Donna (Gary) McDonald and Peter (Terrie) Fleming; six grandchildren, Rachel Evans, Megan McDonald, Courtney Evans, Laura (Jake) Thompson, Mariah Fleming and Ian Fleming; and a special great-grandson, Hunter.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband and an infant granddaughter, Michaela.
She was a longtime member of Forbush Baptist Church, and served the church in a number of positions. She loved the church and the church family.
Martha was grateful for all the many kindnesses through the years and especially the prayers.
A special thanks to Donna Cox and Heather Sasser for their loving care, Allison Pendergraft RN of 3HC and the wonderful team of OT, PT and Health Care, along with the 7th floor staff of Wayne Memorial Hospital; and the Rev. James Koo.
Her funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, 2016, at Forbush Baptist Church, by the Rev. Grady Trivette and the Rev. Joe Souther. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2016, at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville.
