Jack Hardy King, 86, Dudley, passed away Sunday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, Sept. 21, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Wayne Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, Sept. 20, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Jack was the son of the late Perry Durwood and Helen Hardy King of the Rones Chapel community.
He graduated from Mount Olive High School.
Jack was a retired supervisor for Pine State Creamery.
He most enjoyed spending time with family, watching baseball games, surf fishing, working on his farm in Duplin county and especially tending to his yard.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Edith Burroughs King; two sons and daughters-in-law, Tim and Verlie Reeves of Mount Olive and Brent and Debbie King of Garner; four grandchildren, Brian Reeves (April Ramirez) of Mount Olive, Kyle Reeves (Lindsay) of Greenville and Jackson King and Krista King both of Arlington, Va.; and a great-granddaughter, Isabelle Reeves of Greenville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Allen King, Durwood King and Delmar King, and mother-in-law, Amy Burroughs.
Flowers are welcome or donations may be made to Brogden United Methodist Church, 2918 U.S. 117, Dudley, N.C., 28333.
The family would like to express its deepest appreciation to friends and family for their support.
A special thanks to Bernice Ulmer, Randy Mills, Dr. Jason Boyd of Southeastern Medical Oncology Center, Leslie Lane and the 4th floor staff at Wayne Memorial Hospital and the staff at Kitty Askins Hospice Center for the compassionate care given to Jack and the family.
