MARGARET "PEE WEE" WORRELL HOOD

MARGARET 'PEE WEE' WORRELL HOOD

June 11, 1924-July 13, 2016

Margaret "Pee Wee" Worrell Hood died Wednesday, July 13, at the age of 92.

Born in Pikeville, N.C., June 11, 1924, she spent much of her adult life in the Goldsboro and Wilson communities.

She was married for 66 years to Warren E. Hood, who predeceased her in 2008.

At the time of her death, she was a resident of Wilmed Nursing Care Center in Wilson.

Nicknamed "Pee Wee" by one of her teachers, she carried that name with her through the rest of her life.

Pee Wee loved to engage in conversation, and never met a stranger.

Along with her late husband, Warren, she was a charter member of St. Luke United Methodist Church, and for almost 20 years, she taught the 3-year-old Sunday school class.

During her lifetime, she lived by the words of two songs she loved to teach the children, "Jesus Loves Me" and "This Little Light of Mine, I'm Gonna Let it Shine."

While living in Goldsboro, Pee Wee worked in the sportswear department at Weil's, and particularly enjoyed working with high school and college students.

When she moved to other communities in North Carolina because of her husband's work, Pee Wee quickly became involved with church and community volunteer activities.

While living in Wilson, she worked as the receptionist at Mitchell's Hairstyling Academy.

She leaves lots of treasured memories for her daughters, Beverly Mitchell and husband, Ray, of Wilson, and Leslie Bevacqua Coman and husband, Ed, of Raleigh; her grandchildren, Simone Walsh and husband, Tom, of Charlotte, Suzette Fulford and husband, Ted, of Wilson, Robin Bolash and husband, Eric, of Raleigh, Warren Bevacqua and wife, Jennifer Williams, of Harrisburg, Pa., and Chip Mitchell and wife, Loree, of Wilson; and great-grandchildren, McKenzie and Addison Fulford of Wilson, John Thomas Walsh of Charlotte, Mila and Risa Bolash of Raleigh, Peyton and Lily Mitchell of Wilson and Thea Bevacqua of Harrisburg, Pa.

She is also survived by her sister, Jerry McRoy and husband, W.D., of Goldsboro, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Her family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers at Wilmed Nursing Care Center for their loving care over the past several years.

In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Thad and Bob Worrell; her sister, Esther Peacock; and her son-in-law, David Bevacqua.

A celebration of Pee Wee's life will be held Sunday, July 17, at 3 p.m. at St. Luke United Methodist Church in Goldsboro, followed by burial at Wayne Memorial Park.

Visitation will be held at the church prior to the service beginning at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to St. Luke United Methodist Church, 1608 E. Pine St., Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.

Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.seymourfuneralhome.com.
