Mary Taylor "Pete" Daniels, 72, LaGrange, peacefully passed away Tuesday, June 7, 2016.
Pete was born Oct. 25, 1943, in Lenoir County to the late John Taylor and Verdie Harper Taylor.
Her husband of 49 years, Jimmy Daniels, preceded her in death Sept. 27, 2012.
Pete retired from Lenoir Memorial Hospital, where she worked as a patient liaison.
Pete was a member of LaGrange First Missionary Baptist Church. A willingness to serve her Lord and others led her to teach Sunday school, and to serve as a volunteer at Spring Creek Elementary School and 3HC.
She was an avid reader, loved a good game of Rummikub and recently enjoyed traveling with her friend, Jim Murray. Most of all, Pete cherished time spent with her family, especially her grandboys.
A service to celebrate and honor Pete's life will be held Friday, June 10, 2016, at 7 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home, with the Rev. Clyde Eure and the Rev. Brad Mitchell officiating.
Pete is survived by two children, Dondi Smith and husband, Jeffery, of Kinston and Joe Daniels and wife, Suzanne, of LaGrange; four grandboys, Taylor Geoffrey Smith, Noah Daniels Smith, Nathaniel Seth "Nate" Daniels and Jonah Walker Daniels; her good friend and traveling companion, Jim Murray; a niece, June Utley Foose, her husband, Paul, and their daughter, Erin; and a nephew, Richard Taylor Bolick and his wife, Melissa.
Pete's family will receive friends Friday following the memorial service.
