JOE F. MARTIN

Joe Fuller Martin, 76, Pikeville, passed away early Wednesday morning, April 27, 2016, at Wayne Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family.
Joe was born in Giles County, Va., Sept. 24, 1939, to the late James B. Martin and Mary Sue Fuller Martin.
He was employed with Carolina Welds for many years, and developed many ideas adopted by the company.
Joe was a man of many talents. He loved writing songs, short stories and conservative editorials for the News-Argus.
Joe was an avid supporter of the Empty Stocking Fund.
He loved the outdoors, and enjoyed hunting, fishing and, most of all, playing putt-putt with his son, Jeff.
Joe was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and was looking forward to being a great-grandfather in November of this year.
He was loved so much, and will be greatly missed.
A service to celebrate Joe's life will be Sunday, May 1, 2016, at 6 p.m. at Pikeville Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church, with the Rev. Mark Whitfield officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service.
Joe is survived by his wife of 56 years, Gatha Forehand Martin; son, Jeffrey Martin and wife, Sharon, of Pikeville; grandsons, Corey Martin and wife, Marie, of Pikeville and Zachary Martin of Pikeville.
In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Stevers, and eight half-brothers and sisters.
