J.L. ROSE

March 11, 1930-April 15, 2016

James Lee "J.L." Rose, 86, Goldsboro, passed away Friday, April 15, 2016, at his home surrounded by his family.

J.L. was born in Wayne County March 11, 1930, to the late Joel Lamech Rose and Fannie Ivey Rose.

He lived a life of dedication to his family and friends, and to his community.

J.L. served his community many ways from serving as a magistrate for the county of Wayne, was the founder and served as chairman of the Southwest Water District and had served on school advisory boards of Grantham School and Southern Wayne High School.

J.L. was a man of personal and professional integrity, whose passionate work in his community made a difference in many lives.

J.L. was a member of Grantham Fire Department for 28 years, and served as its chief for 25 years.

He was a longtime member of Selah Christian Church in Grantham. J.L. was devoted to his church, served as a deacon and was involved in many activities where he shared the love of God.

His first and favorite occupation, however, was a farmer, and many of his happiest times were spent atop one of his tractors on the family farm.

The family will receive friends Monday, April 18, 2016, from 6 to 7 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, followed by a service celebrating J.L.'s life at 7 p.m. in the chapel, with the Rev. Patrick Muston officiating. The family will also greet friends following the service at the funeral home.

Interment will be Tuesday, April 19, 2016, at 11 a.m. in Rose Family Cemetery near the family home, with military honors.

J.L. is survived by his wife of almost 66 years, Betty Tyner Rose; sons, Jeff Rose and wife, Shirlene, Bob Rose and wife, Cathy, and Mark Rose all of Grantham; seven grandchildren, Joel and wife, Nicole, Bruce, Hope, Ivey, Taylor, Zachary and Nicholas; and he was anticipating the birth of his first great-grandchild in May.

He is also survived by a special niece, Paulette Tart.

We would like to give a very special thank you to the wonderful caregivers at Home, Health and Hospice for the love and care they provided for J.L. during his final days. Simple words cannot express our gratitude.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given in J.L.'s memory to Selah Christian Church, c/o Jean Hollowell, 3304 Stevens Mill Road, Goldsboro, N.C., 27530, or Grantham Fire Department, 3430 U.S. 13 South, Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.

Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.seymourfuneralhome.com.
