MARY HATCH DAVIS
July 20, 1924-March 27, 2016
Mary Hatch Davis, 91, Mount Olive resident, the eldest of 11 children, was born in Sims, N.C., to Roy and Mary Flowers Hatch.
While at Kitty Askins Hospice Center, she passed away peacefully Easter Sunday morning, March 27, and went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus.
Mrs. Davis spent most of her early life working on the family farm before attending nursing school in Richmond, Va., where she met and later married Harry "Ash" Davis, who had recently returned from overseas duty during World War II.
Being the wife of a career Navy man required numerous moves around the country until they finally settled back on the family farm.
Mrs. Davis was an active member in the community, and volunteered to assist in the "Read to Succeed" program for children who had difficulty reading.
She was an active member in the Daughters of the American Revolution, Colonial Dames and Eastern Star, holding many offices within each organization.
She was a longtime member of Advent Christian Church in Mount Olive.
Preceded in death by her husband, Harry Davis; a daughter, Barbara Davis; her parents; brothers, Robert and Horace; and sisters, Josephine and Faye; she is survived by a son, Richard (Butch); brothers, Royce, George and Rex; sisters, Hilda, Joyce and Elaine; grandchildren, Jacob, Shannon and Randy; and seven great-grandchildren.
Friday, April 22, a memorial service will be held at Tyndall Funeral Home in Mount Olive at 7 p.m. Inurnment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Jacksonville, Fla., where she will join her husband and daughter.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be forwarded to Kitty Askins Hospice at 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534, or Alzheimer's Disease Research at 22512 Gateway Center Drive, Clarksburg, Md., 20871.
