Edith Sharpe McClenny, 88, Pikeville, passed away Friday, April 1, 2016, at Wilson Medical Center.

Edith was born in Alamance County March 3, 1928, to the late Lewis Henry Sharpe and Ollie Jenny Perkins Sharpe.

She was married to the late coach Dave McClenny, who preceded her in death Oct. 17, 1998.

Edith retired as bank operations manager for Branch Bank and Trust Co.

She was a longtime member of St. Joseph United Methodist Church in Pikeville. She was devoted to her church, sang in the choir and was involved in the United Methodist Women, as well as many other activities where she utilized her gifts and abilities to share the love of God.

Edith lived a life of dedication to her family and friends, and to her community. She served her community many ways as a board member of the town of Pikeville and as a past president of the Pikeville Lions Club, and as a member of Pikeville Garden Club.

Edith always enjoyed baking cookies for her grandchildren and their friends, but she will be fondly remembered for her love of shopping and traveling, as well as vacationing at the beach.

A service celebrating Edith's life will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 6, 2016, at St. Joseph United Methodist Church, with pastor Rose Hicks officiating. Interment will follow in Pikeville Cemetery.

Edith is survived by her daughters, Karen Rowley and husband, Bill, of Wilson, Bobbie Jean Herrschaft of Cape Carteret and Sandra McClenny of Pikeville; sister, Juanita Barnett of Loris, S.C.; brother, Max W. Sharpe of Greensboro; and three grandchildren, Jeni Guerra, David Overby and Trey Overby.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Mildred Embler, and brother, Emerson Sharpe.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, April 5, 2016, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home.
