Albert Williams Jr., 83, died Thursday at his residence.
Born in Wayne County, he was the son of the late Leslie Albert Williams Sr. and Nettie Mozingo Williams, and husband of the late Betty Williams.
Albert was retired from the United States Air Force Reserves as a chief master sergeant, and served as a firefighter at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base.
He was a charter member and former chief of Arrington Volunteer Fire Department, and helped to organize the Southeastern Wayne Sanitary District, currently serving on the board of directors, and was the secretary of the board.
Albert was a dedicated member of Emmaus Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and chairman of the cemetery committee.
A service to celebrate Albert's life will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Emmaus Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jim Willoughby officiating. Burial with military honors and firefighter honors will follow in the church cemetery.
Family members will greet friends Monday night from 7 to 9 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home.
Albert is survived by a son, Michael G. Williams of Bradenton, Fla.; his daughters, Debra W. Basden of Princeton, Patricia W. Martin of Goldsboro and Jocelyn G. Andrews of Phoenix, Ariz.; brothers, J.M. Williams of Charleston, S.C., and Maurice A. Williams of Roebuck, S.C.; and sisters, Rachel W. Cox of Irmo, S.C., Peggy Williams of Goldsboro and Sandra Ivey of Raleigh; and was blessed with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
