Milner Parks Gurley, 89, passed away Thursday, March 31, 2016, surrounded by her family at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Milner was born in Wayne County Oct. 19, 1926, to the late James Milford Parks and Alma Anderson Parks.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, R.B. Gurley, March 21, 2012.

Milner was a lifetime member of Pine Forest United Methodist Church, and was also a member of the United Methodist Women.

She had worked as a bookkeeper with Dr. William E. Plummer, a veterinarian in Goldsboro, for 27 years.

Milner was the kindest and most loving mother and grandmother and a great friend to everyone. She will be missed by all who were blessed enough to know her.

The family will receive friends Sunday, April 3, 2016, from 3 to 4 p.m. in the fellowship hall at Pine Forest United Methodist Church, followed by a service to celebrate Milner's life at 4 p.m. in the sanctuary, with the Rev. Madison Hankal and the Rev. Andy Stovall officiating. Interment will conclude the service in the church cemetery.

Milner is survived by her children, Alma Jeanne Rutledge and husband, Wilburn, of Goldsboro, Roland Lynn Gurley and wife, Sandra, of Goldsboro and Myra Kaye Pilkington and husband, Jimmy, of Newton Grove; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Michelle Bizzell and husband, Steve, Leigh Anne Mayes and husband, Kirk, Tommy Rutledge and wife, Amy, Jessica Tyndall, Jamye Tyndall Murphrey and husband, Thomas, Holly Lewis and husband, Jason, and Niki Gurley; 11 great-grandchildren, Brent Bizzell, Brenna Bizzell, Ashleigh Mayes, Trent Mayes, Tyler Rutledge, Dylan Rutledge, Nick Lewis, Zoe Lewis, Luke Howell, Kayleigh Tyndall and Kora Tyndall; her sisters, Debbie Buttrum of Garner, Esther Yuraitis of Pikeville and Rebecca King of Goldsboro; brothers, Elton Parks of Goldsboro, Jimmy Parks of Snow Hill and J.P. Parks of Four Oaks; sister-in-law, Maye Gurley Myers; and several nieces and nephews she loved very much.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Mahlon Parks, Dempsey Parks and Eleanor Wilson.

We would like to give a very special thank you to the wonderful staff at Kitty Askins Hospice Center for the love and care it provided for Milner during her final days. Simple words cannot express our gratitude.

Also, a thank you to the caregivers at Somerset Court and the Brian Center, who cared for Milner over these past few years.
