Ruby Esther Davenport Norris, 88, Goldsboro, passed away Monday, Feb. 15, 2016, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by her family.
Ruby was born in Lee County Feb. 4, 1928, to the late Lemuel and Emmie Craven Davenport. She was married to the late Eugene Norris.
Ruby retired as a dietitian with Durham Regional Hospital after 25 years of service.
Her life was filled with humility, kindness and a love for others that she displayed every time she smiled. Ruby dedicated her life to serving her family unselfishly and to serving her Lord.
She was a member of Freedom Baptist Church, and before moving to Goldsboro, she was a member of Grey Stone Baptist Church in Durham.
A service celebrating Ruby's life will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, 2016, at Free Gospel Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church, with the Rev. Danny Ham officiating. Interment will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, 2016, in Buffalo Cemetery in Sanford, N.C.
The family will receive friends Thursday at the church one hour prior to the funeral.
Ruby is survived by her daughters, Patricia Pond and husband, Randy, of Coatsville, Pa., and Elisa Tyndall and husband, Larry, of Goldsboro; son, Richard Norris of Goldsboro; sister, Ollie Davenport of Goldsboro; three grandchildren, Chelsea Gurley and husband, Daniel, Joshua Tyndall and wife, Angel, and Jenna Tyndall; and two great-grandchildren, Gabriel Gurley and Carter Tyndall.
