Donald Patrick Herring, 92, of Goldsboro passed away on Sunday, Dec. 13, 2015 at Wayne Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family.
Donald, the last of eight children, was born in Wayne County on Feb. 19, 1923, to the late Victor and Laura Lewis Herring. His first and favorite occupation was a farmer, and many of his happiest times were spent atop one of his tractors on the family farm. Donald was a life-long member of Providence United Methodist Church, where he held several positions and was a member of the Samaritan Sunday School Class. He was an avid hunter and a true sportsman, most comfortable outdoors.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. in the fellowship hall of Providence United Methodist Church, followed by a service celebrating his life at 11 a.m. in the sanctuary. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Donald was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Doris Jinnette Herring; daughters, Jenny Bryant and husband, Dennis, Alice Herring and husband, Allen Smolonsky, and Laura Anderson and husband, Wayne; son, Pat Herring and wife, Patricia; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in his memory to the Children's Wing of Providence United Methodist Church, 202 Providence Church Road, Goldsboro, N.C. 27530.
