LEONARD W. KORNEGAY
April 25, 1938-Nov. 29, 2015
Leonard Wilkins Kornegay, 77, passed away early Sunday morning at his home surrounded by his family.
Leonard was born in Duplin County on April 25, 1938, to the late Lemuel and Edith Summerlin Kornegay. After graduation from Goldsboro High School and Chowan College in Murfreesboro, N.C., Leonard had a successful career in the printing industry. He began working with the Goldsboro News-Argus before starting his own business that has been operating for 35 years, Kornegay Printing in Goldsboro. Leonard attended Madison Avenue Baptist Church.
He lived a life of dedication to his family and friends, and to his community. Leonard served his community many ways from coaching the young boys at the Wayne County Boys Club to his volunteer work in his hometown at the Beautancus Community Building. Leonard was a true sportsman, most comfortable outdoors, on the water, fishing or in the woods, hunting. He also enjoyed the simple pleasure of gardening and bird watching.
Leonard was an unusually fine man. He was adored by his family, for whom he was a source of strength, but also by countless others, from old friends to new acquaintances, all of whom were struck by his quiet generosity, his kind and unassuming intelligence, and his innate courteousness. He cherished his wife and was role model to his children. Leonard especially enjoyed spending time and sharing his wisdom with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A service celebrating Leonard's life will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2015, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home with Dr. Robert Fulkerson officiating. The family will greet friends immediately following the service at Seymour Funeral Home. Private entombment for the family will follow the visitation at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
Leonard is survived by his wife, Norma Boyles Kornegay; children, Deborah Kornegay Johnson and husband, Craig of Goldsboro, Donna Andrews Amos of Goldsboro, Robin Kornegay Treider and husband, Mark of York, Pa., Gary Andrews and wife, Betty of Goldsboro and Lynn Andrews Parham and husband, Chris of Winterville; grandchildren, Jamie Wiggins and spouse, Jack, Laura Wiggins, Stuart Johnson and wife, Ashley, Michael Treider and wife, Erica, Sarah Amos, Catherine Amos, Mary Madeline Amos and Sam Andrews; great-grandchildren, Tyler Wiggins, Braelyn Johnson, Benson Johnson and Asilyn Treider; and sister, Evelyn Dawson and husband, Nathan of Goldsboro.
