MARJORIE STEVENS TART
Jan. 7, 1926-Nov. 23, 2015
Marjorie Stevens Tart, 89, Goldsboro, passed away peacefully at her home early Monday morning, Nov. 23, 2015, surrounded by her family.
Marjorie was born in Wayne County Jan. 7, 1926, to the late Luby and Lettie Blackman Stevens.
She was married to her husband of 66 years, Dr. John Lisker Tart, who preceded her in death earlier this year April 11, 2015.
Marjorie began her teaching career with the Wayne County School System, where she taught for several years, and later went to work in the Learning Center of Johnston Community College, where she retired.
She was a dedicated teacher, and she loved and cared deeply for her students.
Her warmth, generosity and kind spirit were well known and cherished by those she encountered throughout her life.
A longtime member of Selah Christian Church, she loved reading, lighthouses and her family. Even in her declining health, she found joy in simple pleasures -- visits from family and friends and a Wolfpack win.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2015, from 1 to 2 p.m. in the fellowship hall of Selah Christian Church, followed by a service celebrating Marjorie's life at 2 p.m. in the sanctuary of Selah Christian Church, with pastor Patrick Muston officiating. Interment will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.
Marjorie is survived by her sons, John L. Tart II and wife, LaRue, and Denny Tart; daughter, Dianne Thornton and husband, Kenneth; grandchildren, Dr. Jason Thornton, John L. Tart III, Stephen Tart and wife, Brooke, Whitli Thornton and Caroline Tart; and a great-grandchild, Izabelle Huerta.
She is also survived by a stepgrandson, Jeremy Price, and stepgreat-grandchildren, Peyton Price and Blake Price.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Walter Stevens, Foster Stevens and Lacy Stevens, and sister, Marceline Tucker.
Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Selah Christian Church Scholarship Fund, c/o Jean Hollowell, 3304 Stevens Mill Road, Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.
Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.seymourfuneralhome.com.
