HAZEL H. SULLIVAN

Hazel Mae Howell Sullivan, 88, Goldsboro, was called home early Saturday morning, Oct. 17, 2015, to the loving arms of Jesus Christ her Lord at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
Hazel was born in the Stoney Creek community of Wayne County May 1, 1927, to the late Lester and Nancy Crumpler Howell.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Paul Braxton Sullivan.
Hazel was a longtime member of Stoney Creek Free Will Baptist Church. She was devoted to her church, and served as a treasurer of the Woman's Auxiliary for 16 years, was a member of the Faith Sunday school class and was involved in many activities where she utilized her gifts and abilities to share the love of God.
Hazel enjoyed working as a tax lister for Stoney Creek Township for 20 years.
Hazel was a true Christian lady who loved God, her family and her church.
She was a faithful wife, devoted and loving mother and grandmother.
A service celebrating Hazel's life will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 19, 2015, at Stoney Creek Free Will Baptist Church, with the Rev. Gary Bailey and the Rev. Barry Williamson officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, with Dr. Elvin Butts officiating.
She is survived by her daughters, Nancy Pilkington Mills and husband, William, of Goldsboro and Paula S. Butts and husband, Dr. Elvin R. Butts, of Dunn; grandsons, Trevor E. Pilkington and wife, Teresa, of Pikeville, Trent E. Pilkington of Goldsboro, Thomas S. Pilkington and wife, Emilee, of Durham, Ray A. Butts and wife, Nina, and Paul C. Butts and wife, Crystal, of Dunn; and great-grandchildren, Peyton and Anna Pilkington and Courtney, Ella, Lydia and Jonah Butts.
The family requests memorials be made to Stoney Creek Free Will Baptist Church, 752 Stoney Creek Church Road, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Terry Pilkington, and brothers, Herbert Howell, Robert Howell and Leroy Howell.
The family would like to offer its sincere thanks and appreciation to her caregiver, Judy Carmack, and to the staff of 3HC and Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
The family will receive friends Sunday, Oct. 18, 2015, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and at other times, at her residence.
